Did you know you were having triplets???

This question is driving me bananas!!!

No, my crystal ball is in the shop.

No, the "Big Guy" forgot to call ahead and warn me.

What do people expect me to say?  Why do they even ask this question?  What does it even mean?

Here's how we found out we were having triplets (so you don't need to ask that stupid question):

We went for our preliminary ultrasound.  It was an "innie" ultrasound so it was not at all comfy or fun.  The tech was probing around looking for a heartbeat.
She found one!  Yay!!!
She got quiet...
She found another one!  Holy cow!!!  Double yay!!!
She got quiet again...
She thinks she found another one...
Wait, what the???

Now comes for the next question that people ask that drives me up a wall:
How did you feel when you found out you were having triplets?

Everybody wants to hear the happy answers...We were elated, excited, thrilled, shocked, overwhelmed, etc.

The real story isn't so happy.

When she found the 3rd baby, there was a problem.  He (we now know that he was a he) was measuring significantly smaller than his brothers.  We affectionately called him "Wilbur".
We were whisked off to see the dr.  He told us that we had a high chance of losing little Wilbur & his twin (this would be Nate & Sam) due to something called "Vanishing Twin Syndrome".  So we had to sit around and wait for 2 weeks until our next appt to see if Wilbur would make it.

So...imagine finding out you're having triplets, then immediately following this news, finding out that you might lose 1 (most likely 2).  There are many feelings involved here.  Not so easy to explain to the lady at the dentist, or the lady in line at the supermarket, or the mom in playgroup.

The happy ending to this rant is that we have 3 happy, healthy, fun little boys who I wouldn't trade for the world.  I just wish people would think before they ask these silly questions.
