Eli Funnies #2
This morning Eli pulled his pj pants up way past his navel. When I asked him what he was he doing he said, "Making belly pants. Like you wear, Mama." Oy vey. This kid is way too observant. He looked more like Steve Urkel than a pregnant person though...

Eli Funnies #1
I figured I should start posting funny things that Eli says about the baby(ies)/pregnancy.
-Yesterday at church (funny place to think of these things) Eli asked me how the baby was going to come out. All along I've told him that I'll go to the hospital and the doctors will help. This usually stops the questions. It seemed to work up until yesterday, when he asked me if I was going to cough the baby up out of my mouth. Then he asked if the doctor will "rip" my belly open. Sort of...
-Also I accidentally said "babies" instead of baby and he caught on right away. All he thinks is 2. We don't know when we'll get to the whole 3 conversation. So later on, I asked what he thinks we should name the babies. He said, "Elijah". He didn't seem to get that it would be problematic to have everybody named Elijah.

Overzealous Yardwork
So...we decided to take some 11 week belly shots since the belly is taking over. We hope to update them weekly or so to show our "progress". While we were outside in the yard I saw what terrible shape the yard is in and I spotted my arch nemesis the dreaded Japanese Bamboo (Dave knows the real name of it). I decided I would pull it out because I was sick of waiting for somebody else to take care of it. Being an invalid is really no fun. Well I had a great time pulling it all out and getting tangled in the bushes and crawling all over the place.
Until....I went in the house. I felt a trickle. I ran to the bathroom and started shaking because it was my worst fear...blood. Oy vey. I decided to take it easy on the couch and just lay low. This worked for awhile until I felt a gush. Not good. I immediately called my regular OB Dr. B.'s office. They called back and told me to keep my feet up and if things didn't get better to call for an ultrasound in the morning. Not satisfied with this answer, I called my MFM Dr. M.'s office. They were much more receptive and told me to come in today (Monday, this happened on Sunday) for an u/s. OK. Now just to stay put and try not to panic...sure...we'll see how that goes.
Well we made the trip into Boston for our u/s and we saw everybody kicking and squirming and hearts beating. YAYAYAYAYAY!!! I also got my first outie u/s and am loving that I probably won't have any more innies!!! They checked sizes and heartbeats and everything all around since this was the first u/s at this practice. The tech even said she thought the twins were mono-di. This is even better news. They're not sharing a sac so they're not as high risk as mono-mono twins. Another hurdle down!!! The tech left and said she needed to show things to the dr to be sure that she was right about the mono-di thing. About 10 minutes later 2 more dr.'s came in. I started to panic a bit, but they were just checking the sac situation so I relaxed. They took about 75 pictures in all, but I didn't get to take any home. I still have my regularly scheduled u/s next week so hopefully I'll get some pix to post then.
So all in all, good news. The midwife told me not to do anything out of the ordinary (like yard work) and to stick to my usual routine. Okee dokee. As long as this doesn't happen again. She thinks it may have been a cervical bleed which happens when pg people overexert themselves. Well, we definitely learned a lesson and I'm leaving all the big stuff up to everybody else.

MGH
Today was my first appt with Dr. M. at MGH. The worst part was trying to get out of Lowell as that took us a 1/2 hour. I'm super nervous about the actual delivery and how long it's gonna take us to get to Boston. Our whole appt took about an hour. He was super nice and not all doom and gloom like Dr. I. He basically layed out all of the possible issues so we can be informed, but didn't make it sound like the end of the world. He took an extensive history and asked me about a zillion questions. I'll be going back in 2 weeks for a real appt with pix of the kiddos!
The most annoying part of the whole appt was at check out. The receptionist apparently never had to put codes in for triplets. She had no idea what she was doing and couldn't figure out the notes the dr had written. She finally looked at me and said "You're having 3 babies?". Yup, Yup I am. That's why I'm at an MFM. Honestly, shouldn't people who work at these places know better? Hopefully she'll keep her mouth shut the next time we're there. In the meantime, we're still praying for the twinkies to see how many amniotic sacs they're in...Keep those fingers crossed...
More good news though... I only need to consume 3000 calories per day. That seems more doable...

Second Ultrasound

This 2 week wait was almost as bad as the first one. I was so anxious as we went into our 2nd ultrasound on 4/10/10. I immediately told the tech that we just wanted to know if there were 3 heartbeats. She was very quick and said...1...2...3...!!! Yay!!! Wilbur's still there.
She was much more quiet than the first tech and just did measurements and showed us some pictures, but didn't really give us a play-by-play. This was o.k. since we knew Wilbur had made it.
Then, once again, we got whisked away to see the dr. He lectured us for about 10 minutes about "soul searching" and making a tough decision. Umm...hello...WE'RE KEEPING THE BABIES!!!
So, once we got past that, we found out that all 3 L.L. Beans (Little Langlais Beans) are about the same size. Their heartbeats were about even (173, 174, 175) and they were measureing 9 weeks! Wilbur caught up with his/her brothers/sisters.
It was the best news ever! We've cleared one hurdle and now we have about 2 million left to go. Now I'm hunkering down and trying to consume 4000 calories and drink a gallon (literally) of water per day.
=======
Overall, my health and mood have been good. I haven't really had morning sickness...which is good. I have had some food aversions and cravings, which is wreaking havoc on Dave as he often bears the brunt of them. I've had some fatigue issues and try to nap as much as I can. Sleeping is getting tough because I'm afraid to roll over and squish anybody. I've gotta bust out my Snoogle and just get comfy.
=======
Eli has been super excited about the baby. As far as he knows it's just one. We didn't want to confuse him or have him telling strangers on the street (which he's been telling random people that "there's a baby in mama's belly"). He's been kissing my belly good night, always 3x. I told him it was for good luck. When we say prayers, he always makes sure to say "God Bless the baby" and I quickly think (x3) so nobody gets forgotten.

First Ultrasound
With our Beta numbers being so high, we couldn't wait to see how many little jellybeans were growing inside me. We went on Saturday, March 27th. We had to wait what felt like an eternity in the waiting room. We finally got called back to the ultrasound room and things got underway. Because it was so early, we had an "innie" ultrasound instead of an "outie" ultrasound. Anyway, not comfy...keep that in mind.
The ultrasound lady immediately found a sac with a heart beat. Yay!!! Dave and I were elated. She also saw a shadowy one further away. She measured the 1st one and went back to check on the second one. It was pretty tough for her to locate and it was super uncomfortable for me while she pressed and prodded.
She immediately confirmed a 2nd heart beat! Yay!!! Because things were a little blurry, she zoomed out and zoomed in again and that's when we saw it...a 3rd heart beat!!! YAYAYAYAY!!! Holy guacamole!!! Dave nearly passed out! I was already lying down so I didn't lose consciousness.
After the u/s we were whisked away to see the dr. He was not at all positive. It was very upsetting. We were a bit deflated when he told us that heart beat #3 might "vanish" and we might end up with only 2.
We immediately started to pray for little "Wilbur" and his/her safe development.
