Yes, you saw it right. Sammy can officially climb out of his crib...even with his sleepy sack on...Honestly...these boys need to give their mommy a break!
Even though Sam (& Ben) can climb out of their cribs, they've never done it while we're not in the room. They've only done it on demand with us right there.
Regardless, we knew we needed to take some precautions...
A million years ago (OK, last year), parents of triplet Houdini's were able to use a lovely invention called CRIB TENTS to keep their little escape artists from raiding the fridge at midnight.

But they were recalled and no longer availble for us (aka the desperate triplet parents of 2 year olds).
Recently the buzz in "Triplet-Town" is to lower the crib mattress to the floor. This gives you 6-8 more inches of height to (HOPE) they can't conquer.
We had one problem.
When the mattress was lowered to the floor with our cribs, there was a
space where our beloved monkeys could get stuck.

We devised a plan and tried it out.
Dave (aka Mr. Engineer) designed and built little platforms for the mattresses. The following pictures are very detailed in the hopes that they benefit a triplet mommy or daddy in need.
We even have room to drop them down a bit more.
Now the inmates boys in their cells cribs.

You might be wondering what those lovely decorations are on their crib rails. Those are receiving blankets that are zip ties on to prevent the little rascals from chewing up the wood.

I have some friends who foster. They had to do something similar for one of their older boys. Very slick!
Found this link on the Growing Up Triplets site when I was desperately looking for ways to keep our twins from climbing out of their cribs. Love your idea (so does my engineer husband) and also love that two of your boys have the same names as ours: Nate and Sam. :)
Your boys are so cute! I have four boys (8, 6, 4, 2) and I have a Samuel, Nathan, Daniel and Benjamin! Pretty funny--great names! Thanks for the details... climbers are so fun, aren't they? :)
I do not have triplets or twins but I do have a JackJack (yep just like the little fire ball from the Incredibles and I lovingly can say that he fits this description to the T!) I stumbled on your blog while searching for ways to keep my little houdini in his crib. He is not yet 2 and is no where ready for the freedom of a toddler bed. I honestly cringe at the possibilities of disasters that we would wake up to. He is something else LOL This little guy shows me daily that the house may be baby proofed but it is not Jack proofed and I have had to get very creative in order to attempt to keep him and everyone else safe :) So I just wanted to take the time to THANK YOU and your creative husband for the very detailed outline of the inescapable crib (or for me anyway…only time will tell HA!). I never faced a climber with my older two minions and this little guy had determination and skills that are beyond my belief so thank you thank you thank you!!!!!
What a great idea!! Do you have the plans for the somewhere we can access them? My twin 22 month old girls are not only climbing in and out of their cribs they are "penny dropping" into their crib from the rails. HELP!!! :))
So funny! We have four daughters and twin boys (21 months old). The boys are climbing in and out of their cribs like crazy! We had them sleep together on a two week camping trip (in our camper) over the 4th of July. As soon as we got home we started finding one little guy in the other little guys bed. I thought there was no way he was climbing. Now they are both climbing even with sleep sacks on 😱 they just “hop” the sides like a fence. Last night they stayed awake so late! We have got to try to lower their mattresses to the floor in the crib 🙈 thanks for the idea! We will see what we come up with. My girls didn’t climb out as early at all, but their crib was awesome and super deep. In an age where people care so much about safety, I can’t understand why they don’t make cribs deeper! 🤦🏻♀️ Thank you! So your triplets are what about 9-10 now?! Congratulations:)
